SPEAKERS:

DECEMBER 5th - Dr. MaryAnne Herron, Ph.D., Director of Special Projects at The Harold Grinspoon Charitable Foundation will discuss her work in Cambodia overseeing 5 primary schools, 63 orphans and a medical clinic in the Phum Thom Commune. During Dr. Herron's most recent visit to Cambodia, she hosted Westfield State College president, Dr. Evan Dobelle and 8 faculty members. They toured the primary schools and medical clinic that was recently set up in Phum Thom. Dr. Herron also works closely with the Girl Guides of Cambodia (similar to Girl Scouts) as girls and women are treated as second class citizens and receive little education. Many are sold into human trafficking.

DECEMBER 12th - Dr. Steve Sobel, motivational speaker, educator and humorist. Dr. Sobel's topic will be Lessons, Insights and Inspiration Learned at Notre Dame. ADDITIONAL CLUB NEWS:

Toy for Joy - As the Springfield Rotary Club has done for several years in the past, we will again assist the Salvation Army in distributing toys for their Toy for Joy campaign.  The dates are December 15, 16, and 17 from 9am-3pm and the location is 170 Pearl St, Springfield.  Parking is available on site.  We will split up into morning and afternoon shifts.  For more details call the Salvation Army at 413-737-3990 or Stephen Jablonski at 413-747-5285.

Every Rotarian Every Year - October 2008 was designated the month to meet the challenge grant from the Bill & Milanda Gates Foundation in the amount of $100 million dollars for the Polio Plus campaign. Every Rotarian was asked to contribute $33.33 per year for three years using the coin boxes or simply by writing a check. At present about half of the Springfield Rotarians have participated. This is your opportunity to lift our Rotary Club to the 100% participation level and leverage a remarkable matching gift from the Gates Foundation. So please take a moment today to become part of this last push to End Polio Now!  You can bring it to this Friday's meeting or if you would like to mail this donation send to: Springfield Rotary, P.O. Box 1033, Springfield, MA 01101 (Please note Polio Plus on the donation). This will be an annual appeal for three years and if you would like to make a one time donation of $100 to fulfill this obligation now please feel free to do so.
