SPEAKERS:

 

April 3 -Kevin Rhodes, Music Director of both the Springfield Symphony Orchestra and the Traverse Symphony Orchestra of Michigan- His topic will be "The Springfield Symphony¹s Role in the Community." Rhodes also continues his associations with the world renowned Paris Opera Ballet leading that company in 40 performances in both the Opera Houses in Paris: the 19th century Palais Garnier and the ultra-modern Bastille Opera House This season he celebrates his eighth year as Music Director in Springfield.

 

Also at Friday's meeting we will be presenting a check for $1500 to the Zoo in Forest Park for the expansion and renovation of their alligator exhibit. You may recall that Rotary was instrumental in funding the original exhibit area. This exhibit is currently home to three alligators and several Tortoise.

 

April 10 -   Group Study Exchange - Rotary District 7890, comprising of Rotary Clubs in Northern Connecticut and Western Massachusetts, will welcome the Thailand Group Study Exchange Team on March 28. The team will be arriving at Bradley International and will be in the district for four weeks.  The members of the Thailand team are Mr. Chawengsak Leatritsirikul, automotive accessories business specialist; Ms. Jiraporn Kansuwan, a university international relations specialist; Mr. Quanchai Laohaviraphab, Rotarian team leader from District 3330 and a specialist in the steel industry; Ms. Sawitree Muangyai, a university English lecturer; and Ms. Unchalee Boonyanurak, a high school English teacher.

FROM THE ARCHIVES: from the February, 1952 meeting, and goes as follows:"Springfield College students from Israel and India and, one, a Mr. Mohana, from India stressed the inspiration of the American principle of the sacredness of human rights. a Mr. Lissauer of Israel appreciated the friendliness of Springfield and his college and the ability of every man in America to achieve success in proportion to his efficiency, and also the warm welcome he received and did not expect from a non-Jewish country."
