SPEAKERS:

THURSDAY AUGUST 20thKatie Stebbins, Western MA Director of the MassMentoring Partnership  Mass Mentoring is the only statewide organization solely dedicated to strategically expanding quality youth mentoring in Massachusetts, serving as an umbrella organization for all of the youth mentoring programs in the state. Stebbins was previously a principal planner for the Springfield Office of Planning and Economic Development. During that time, she began mentoring area youth in Springfield¹s public schools and quickly saw the power of mentoring as a workforce development strategy. This interest led to a passion which led to a career change. Excellent formalized youth mentoring programs exist locally at Mass Mutual, Baystate Medical, Big Y, Springfield College and in public schools throughout Western Massachusetts and through mentoring agencies such as Big Brothers/ Big Sisters and Girls Inc.

THURSDAY AUGUST 27th - Alex Schwerin, General Manager of the Springfield Armor Basketball Team The Springfield Armor is the NBA Development League's second team in New England. Beginning in November they will play a 50-game schedule, including 24 home games at the MassMutual Center. Dee Brown was recently named as Head Coach and Director of Basketball Operations and Kevin Whitted as Assistant Coach. Brown, who enjoyed a distinguished 12-year NBA career that included eight seasons with the Boston Celtics, becomes the first head coach in Springfield Armor history. He also becomes the sixth former Celtics player to serve as a head coach in the NBA Development league, joining Dennis Johnson, Nate "Tiny" Archibald, Joe Wolf, Sam Vincent and Jay Humphries.
