THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 10th -  Joe Deburro, of Springfield, Assistant Managing Editor for Sports and Production for The Republican. His topic will be "The Current State of Sports Today." Deburro, 48, is a Springfield native who got his start in daily newspaper journalism at the Springfield Daily News in 1980 answering telephones and covering sandlot baseball. He has been Sports Editor since 1996. Deburro's "Tennis Talk" column appears in the Sunday Republican during the spring and summer. Deburro is a graduate of the former Classical High School in Springfield and attended Colby College in Waterville, Maine, where he majored in English. He lives in Springfield with his wife, Kristen, a copy editor and page designer at The Republican, and Harry, their 4-year-old long-haired German Shepherd.
