FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 18th - Hannah Crossen, 21, Eastern Region Vice President of The National FFA Organization (formerly Future Farmers of America) - The National FFA Organization, is a national youth organization of 507,763 student members all preparing for leadership and careers in the science, business and technology of agriculture as part of 7,439 local FFA chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The National FFA Organization changed to its present name in 1988, in recognition of the growth and diversity of agriculture and agricultural education. The FFA mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. Crossen is currently attending The Ohio State University, where she is a member of OSU Alpha Zeta Partners, the OSU Buckeye Leadership Society, the OSU Agricultural Education Society and the OSU Scarlet and Gray Ag Day Committee.
SPECIAL AUCTION ON 9/18 - The Ultimate Big E Experience
FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 25th - Susana Hall of Longmeadow, MA and Maureen Hayes of Springfield, MA climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in 2008 - Hall, RN, BSN, MBA, ACM is a Clinical Business Consultant to Managed Care & Director for Post Acute Services at Baystate Health. Maureen Hayes, is President of Hayes Development Services, a Springfield-based consulting firm focusing on urban economic development. Hall and Hayes climbed Kilimanjaro with Suzanne Bridge of Somers, CT and Judy Woods of Niantic, CT in February 2008. At just under 20,000 feet (5,895 meters), Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest point in the continent of Africa, the highest free-standing mountain in the world, and the highest volcano in the world. It is one of the ³Seven Summits², the highest point on each of the earth¹s continents, and is located in the nation of Tanzania on the east coast of Africa. Their ascent took four days, with the final climb involving a nine hour climb that began just after midnight.

From the Spokesman dated February 6, 1931. Mayor Dwight Winter spoke to Rotary and outlined the problem of unemployment in Springfield. His aggressive approach, including work for pay in lieu of charity in instances wherever possible was strongly urged. It is a difficult task which is being handled with much efficiency by the Mayor.
