What Columbus Day Means
to Italian Americans

 Friday October 16th

SPEAKERS:

OCTOBER 2nd - Aron Goldman, Director of the Springfield Institute - His topic will be Big ideas + regular residents = urban transformation. According to Goldman "the dissolution of the control board, ward representation, and an election season make this a critical moment for Springfield. Will this be a return to pothole politics, parochialism, or worse? Or will the city seize this historic opportunity to increase democratic participation, draw traditionally underrepresented groups into public life, and hold leadership accountable in ways the city has not seen before?" Goldman has helped local, national, and international organizations to become more effective and engaged in the public policy issues that affect them. He has also taught social welfare policy and political economy at UMass Amherst and Springfield College. Goldman holds a Masters from Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School for Public and International Affairs.

FROM THE ARCHIVES:

From the Spokesman dated May 11, 1951. Ted Shawn, the world famous exponent of the "dance" spoke and disclosed the information that the "dance" had a therapeutic value in his own recovery from illness, as well as the fact that, as a result of his research "dance" was, truly, man's form of spiritual expression. His speach was enlightening and was totally appreciated by all.
