Ed Flynn was named the first Commissioner of Police for the City of Springfield in March 2006.  As the police chief executive, he is responsible for 448 officers and nearly 100 civilians serving a city of 155,000 residents.  He began his career in the Jersey City Police Department, served as Chief of Police in Braintree and Chelsea, MA.  In Chelsea he helped lead the city out of state-imposed receivership to designation as an All American City.  Ed Flynn is past recipient of the prestigious Gary Hayes Memorial Award for Police Leadership.  Sue Lavoie will introduce the Commissioner.

RAMON FRIAS, PRESIDENT

CENTRAL NEW ENGLAND BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU

Jim Russell will introduce Ramon Frias who became President/CEO of the Central New England Better Business Bureau at the start of this year.  Along with a focus on ethical business practices,

Mr. Frias would like to see the public utilizing the services of the BBB before doing business with a company and not just after something has gone wrong.

MAY ROTARIAN BIRTHDAYS WILL BE CELEBRATED AT MAY 18TH MEETING

WHAT A MEETING:  If you missed the April 27th meeting with FBI SSRA Michael O'Reilly and Holyoke's Police Chief Anthony Scott, you also missed a chance to meet up with club members Judge Cooley and Lee Schermerhorn.  It was a joyous reunion...and here's to many more.

FOCUS ON BUSINESS:  The May issue of The Rotarian states on page 4:  "Because of your feedback, we plan to devote future editorial coverage to exploring business matters."  [Your voice does count!]

DIRECTORY CHANGE:  Please note the change of address and e-mail address for Jim Gallo that appears in the web site member directory.

FROM THE BOARD ROOM: An extended Board of Directors meeting on April 27th produced a number of changes to be made in the focus and operation of club activities.  As we go along, President-Elect Carol Armour will be revealing those changes and her vision for the up-coming club year.

COMING UP:

MAY 25, 2007 - NO MEETING - Memorial Day Weekend

JUN  01, 2007 - Dr. James Mullen,  Elms College

JUN  08, 2007 - Donkey Man
