SPOKESMAN SPONSORS: A sincere thank you to all the members who have sponsored or co-sponsored an issue of the Spokesman during the past club year. Why do we need sponsors when the newsletter is published on the web site? Every two weeks the Spokesman is mailed to those without internet access or to a few non-members. There still exists a cost for paper, envelopes, labels, postage, and computer ink. In addition, there are costs for maintaining computer, DSL connection, and club web site fees. Any remainder is added to the General Fund
to support our office and secretary. Again, thanks to supporters of this valuable means of club communication.
TOAST of THE TOWN. On March 2, 2007, in the interests of international understanding and fellowship, members of the Rotary Club of Mudgee Sunrise, New South Wales, Australia toasted the Rotary Club of Springfield. Our member, Destiny Dudley, having a strong interest in international affairs, has volunteered to respond to Mudgee and then quarterly pass on the toast to another Rotary Club somewhere in the world. Find out in June Where in the World Springfield Rotary is toasting another club. What a fun way to get to know Rotarians on an international level.
PANCAKE BREAKFAST Bill L. Collins, as of this writing, reports the World's Largest Pancake Breakfast on Main Street, Springfield will be another success and offers thanks to Club members Carol Armour, Steve Jablonski, Al LaRiviere, and Jim Russell who will join him in selling tickets at this annual flapjack feast. Due to inclement weather the date was changed to May 26, 2007.
COUNCIL ON LEGISLATION: Every three years selected Rotarians meet in Chicago as part of the Council on Legislation to deliberate on issues that affect every Rotarian. Some of the hot topics this year included attendance, membership, and programs. . Feel welcome to review a copy of the Preliminary Report of the 2007 Council on Legislation on Bev's table.

FROM THE ARCHIVES:
Then: The March 1, 1929 Spokesman reported "Springfield Rotary a Cold Club. This is a report from Club visitors."
Now: Letter from June 2006 Wisconsin visitor: "It has been my privilege to make up all over the United States and in England during my 32+ years in Rotary. Never had I received such a warm welcome as I did in Springfield. From the time I introduced myself to one of your members walking in from the parking lot until the time I left at the end of the meeting, the reception that I received was unmatched in my Rotary experience. I only hope that my Club is half as receptive to guests as your Club." [Congratulations Springfield....and what a difference 78 years makes!]
