Erica Walch - Speak Easy

As Owner of Speak Easy Accent Modification, Erica's mission is to teach people, whether from Boston or Bangalore, how to change the way they communicate so that others can better understand them. Named as one of Business West's Forty under 40, Erica helps students modify intrusive accents.

HAPPY DAYS-  Springfield Rotary is HAPPY Steve Jablonski placed 158th out of 520 participants at the Littleton Rotary "AppleMan" Triathlon, Sunday, July 22nd. Congratulations, Steve!   We are all HAPPY Steve placed 5th in his age group at the Greenfield Triathlon on

Aug 5th.  This course was a .65 mile swim, 30 mile bike ride and 7.5 mile run which Steve completed in 3 hrs and 18 min.  Well, Steve, you win.  Walking to Rotary is good for you!

Our HAPPY meeting with the West Springfield Rotary Club for lunch filled the room with great energy, great Rotarians, and our great bookmeister, Janet Edwards. Books entitled Billy the Kid, How Doctors Think,  and a spectacular The Dangerous Book for Boys (8 - 80) demanded an immediate visit to Edwards Books. The HAPPY singers at our indoor picnic August 10 created great ambience with a Rotary rendition of the round, "Row, Row, Row Your Boat."  How long has it been since you've sung that song!? Our thanks to song leaders Bill Massidda, Al LaRiviere, and Carol Harris.  A special thanks to Max's for creating this one-of-a-kind picnic.

Who is the new Director of Mentorship at the Hampden County Correctional Center?  A very

HAPPY  Elaine Lemieux.  Congratulations, Elaine!  Tom Burton sure looked HAPPY in the Aug 6th Business West picture of the closing ceremonies at the NASDAQ.  Great article!  Congratulations.

We were HAPPY to see you last meeting, Judge Cooley!  Chester sure was HAPPY when Sue Mastroianni picked him up from summer camp. "A kennel by any other name is still a kennel," complains Chester.  Sue tells us that like all kids who go away to "camp," Chester was exhausted when he got home. The only difference with Chester is that he doesn't bring home any dirty laundry!

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Aug 31, 2007   NO MEETING - Enjoy your holiday weekend!

Sep 07, 2007   Meet you at HILTON GARDEN INN for an exciting meeting with the Texas

Western basketball team of Glory Road fame.  Before 9/7 arrives, take a

a look at the DVD Glory Road,  or see Bev to borrow a copy of the book.  The team assures us that it will be well-worth the effort to learn about them before they arrive.  If you read the book, look for the name Steve Tredennick.  Steve was a visiting Rotarian last year during Enshrinement Week and through an on-going correspondence, Steve and Dave "Big Daddy" Lattin  have offered to present a program for us on September 7th.

PS:  Janet Edwards will be glad to order you a copy of Glory Road in paperback -                         --- remember,  24-hour turn-around!

FROM THE ARCHIVES:  August 3, 1928 - The Spokesman -

Mike: "What is this business ethics?"

Ike:    "Suppose a man came in to pay a $9.00 bill.  He gives me a ten, I give him a one.  As he walks out I see that it is two tens stuck together.  Now business ethics simply means this.  Shall I, or shall I not, tell my partner?"
