DO YOU HAVE A FRIEND WHO WANTS TO KNOW MORE ABOUT ROTARY? An excellent
tool for helping friends learn about Rotary is to suggest they scan the Rotary International
website. For starters, suggest www.rotary.org. Click: "About Us." Bottom right: "Click Rotary Basics" Then Click General Information. "Scroll down to Frequently Asked Questions." This is
a wonderful way for current members to be brought up to date on the latest in Rotary
International. Remember, this is not Springfield Rotary specific, but does contain a wealth of information.
WOW - Congratulations to Sue Mastroianni and the Publicity Committee. The technique of submitting information about upcoming club events and inviting the public seems to be having success. Sunday Republican, Nov 4, contained another article in the Business Section under "Calendar" items, and Channel 3 has posted club info on their community calendar. Stay on the alert for these articles...clip them out and give them to a friend interested in Rotary!

THE MAGIC PEN changes hands. It has been a joy and a privilege to write for the Spokesman for the past 2-1/2 years. Now the time has come to pass the magic pen on to Bill L.Collins who
has volunteered to be the next "editor" of your club newsletter. Good luck, Bill, and best wishes to the entire Rotary Club of Springfield. Like the Energizer Bunny, may each member become an "energizing spirit" in the club as it hops along blazing new trails. The club has a phenomenal history with stunning records from the past. May you carry this legacy into the future. And most of all, may you have the biggest celebration ever on your 100th birthday in 2014...it's not that far away. Best wishes to all, and may you continue to enjoy the camaraderie of Rotary...that special organization that touches people's lives. And, as for me, my heartfelt, ---"Thanks for the memories." ---- Bev Jennings
FROM THE ARCHIVES: The Spokesman, August 1, 1930: "Rotarian Admiral Byrd, while on his way back from the Antarctic told the Rotary Club of Wellington New Zealand that he carried with him to the South Pole the Rotary Flag. A few years ago, he carried the Rotary Flag in his flight over the North Pole. Rotary is inter-polar as well as international."
The Spokesman, December 9, 1927 - "Should we not provide a special badge for new members---to be worn for at least six months after admission to the club?"
