SPEAKERS:

 

April 11th - Dr. Alex Gillat, Principal of Springfield Academy for Excellence (SAFE) - In 1989, Dr. Gillat established Springfield Academy as a unique combination of behavioral modification procedures with psychological, social, and educational assessments. The main purpose was to provide a highly structured alternative school for the suspended/ expelled students as well as for emergencies within the school system.  Three years ago, all of the Alternative Educational programs in Springfield, including Springfield Academy, were combined into one school - Springfield Academy for Excellence (SAFE) to create a new educational structure. Dr. Gillat is the Principal of the SAFE  Schools, which are comprised of seven alternative programs located at six campuses.

 

April 18th - Hope Kelley, PGA Head Golf Professional at The Ranch Golf Club of Southwick, MA - Hope Kelley has 15 years of experience in the public and private golf sector. She has been a member of the PGA since 1995 and in 1997 was the first female Head Golf Professional in the history of the Connecticut section. She was also the first woman to receive the Connecticut Section PGA Merchandiser of the Year for Public Facilities award in 2007.  Kelley, who resides in Westfield, Mass., won the 2001 Massachusetts Women's Open. In 2001, she played on the Futures Tour, and in 2002, she caddied on the LPGA Tour. Her philosophy of using creativity and flexibility in the golf shop and a sincere interest in the needs of her customers have resulted in her success as an outstanding merchandiser.

 

April 25th - Keshawn E. Dodds, Springfield author and Director of Alumni and Community Relations at American International College (A.I.C.) - Dodds graduated from A.I.C. in 2001 with a triple major in Secondary Education, Sociology and Political Science. He went on to become an elementary school teacher in the Springfield Public School system from 2001-2005. In 2005 he went to work for former Springfield Mayor, Charles V. Ryan as a Mayoral Aide working to strengthen governmental relations with several city neighborhoods. Currently he is the Director of Alumni and Community Relations at American International College (A.I.C.). Dodds is a published author of children's science fiction books. His first book, Menzuo in the Calling of the Sun Prince, is the introductory book to the Solar Warriors series, which was published in 2004.  The Solar Warriors series will consist of more than twenty books. His second book  Menzuo S.W. Legend of the Blue Diamond was published in 2005. The 3rd book in the series, Menzuo S.W. Judgement Set Upon Earth, is due out later this year.
