We are excited to welcome Pam Malumphy from New England Public Radioto The Rotary Club of Springfield. Pam is the stations Executive Director of Development and Major Gifts at the station. New England Public Radio will be a corporate member. We are also happy to welcome the Children’s Study Home as a corporate member. Eliza Crestcentiti from the Children’s Study Home joined the Rotary Club of Springfield in August 2015. In expanding the membership to a corporate one, we will be welcoming Brenda Trierwieller and Joseph Dupelle to the Club. Please make an effort to introduce yourself to our new members at our next meeting.
1st Vice-President Laurie Rosner is beginning to build her team for the 2016-2017 Rotary Year. We are looking to continue to fill out the club structure and are in need of a Rotarian to serve as chair of the nomination committee. The current structure moves Laurie into the Presidency for 2016-2017 and Lamont into the 1st Vice-President position. Thank you to Alicia Garcia and Richard Fulkerson who have volunteered to rename in their current roles. We will need to fill out the remaining Board of Director positions.
On the service front, we are looking for at least two Club members to attend a webinar about Global and District Grants. The Club will be taking the next steps in engaging the Rotary Club of Phnom Penh to expand work with the Cambodian Clinic through a Global Grant. To apply for the Global Grant, we must have at least two club members attend the webinars.
This Friday, we will be holding a Club Assembly. The topics to be discussed are attendance, make ups and updates on several programs in the planning stages.
On a quarterly basis we take time from our regular series of speakers to focus on club plans and activities. True to our "Service Above Self" motto, our Club has service opportunities under way, such as our Cambodia Water Program and our monthly commitment to serve the evening meal at the Friends of the Homeless, and in the works, such as the possible development of a new Rotaract Club at BayPath University.

Last Friday’s speaker, our own Dene Kimball, made an offer that we can’t refuse, to support our Club’s Service Fund. Dene is a skilled woodworker, in addition to his many other talents as a Foundation Fundraiser, sailor, business and family man. He has given our Club the opportunity to auction one of his custom walking sticks on Friday, February 26th, 2016. The custom walking stick Dene creates will highlight the family name, accomplishments and characteristics of the recipient. The process will require an interview to determine you would like on the stick. The making stick will take 10 hours to 12 hours. The rate is $30 per an hour. We will be begin the bidding at $60. We will be accepting bids at our February meetings in person.
It is time again to assist with serving dinner at The Friends of the Homeless on Thursday, February 04, 2016 at 4:15 PM. Please come and enjoy the privilege of serving dinner to the people who join us at The Friends of the Homeless Shelter. We finish serving at 5:10 PM. The Friends of the Homeless is located at 755 Worthington Street, Springfield, MA.
The Club is in the develop stages of establishing a Roteract Club at Baypath University. Laurie Rosner, 1st Vice-President, will serve as the director. I am certain that we will be up and running soon. The Roteract is an excellent tie to efforts to retain talent in our region and create a new wave of Rotarian business leaders. The Roteract Club will be responsible for creating and implementing two service project in the Rotary Year, one in the fall and one in the spring.
