NO MEETING TOMORROW
Just a reminder to all our busy Rotary members: there is no regular meeting of the Rotary Club of Springfield tomorrow, Jan 29, 2021. Our next virtual meeting is set for one week from tomorrow on the same Zoom location

VERY SAD NEWS

Our dear friend in Rotary, Michael Kelley, lost his father, Jearl Kelley to COVID on January 15th. Please see the article in this bulletin issue for more details. We wish Michael and his family our deepest condolences on this sudden and untimely loss.

Despite the stresses of this difficult news and a difficult last few months our club continues to soldier on, providing needed help to our community during this pandemic. I will have news of our latest steps toward that end next week.

Jearl Kelley, 69, father of our Club Member Michael Kelley, passed away at Baystate Medical Center on January 15, 2021. He was a lifelong resident of Springfield and employed for 43 years as a truck driver, 30 of them as a long-distance driver.

Michael tells us his Dad died of complications of COVID-19 and that his death was very sudden. He had been ill a few days, was admitted to the hospital, and died shortly thereafter. Mr. Kelley was a lung cancer survivor.

He leaves his children, Annette Kelley of West Springfield, MA, and Michael J. Kelley and his wife Candida of Ludlow, MA; his brother William Kelley of Springfield and his grandchildren Michael B. Kelley and Alexander J. Kelley; and his ex-wife Jannette Kelley of Springfield.

Condolences may be sent to Michael and his wife Candida, and sons Michael Jr and Alexander at their home at 58 Duke St, Ludlow, MA 01056.

District 7980 Update

A message from Marc Glass, District Governor 20/21

You might have heard that there is another wave of Covid masks that will be available to clubs, for them to distribute in their areas. It won’t be the same where we had two locations to pick them up. It will probably be in my office and at that time I can also give clubs their theme pins in which I have had since late March.

Each club will have the opportunity to publicize the event on its own. If you are interested, please contact DGE Joanne Alfieri. More to follow on this.

I am happy to announce that Christine Burns will be your District Governor for the years 23/24. I and the rest of the team are looking forward to working with her.

Dates to Remember:

March 11,12,13,18,19,20: NEPETS for incoming and Presidents that are staying for another year. All are required to attend as well as the AGs.

Details will follow.
