The annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s is scheduled for Sunday, September 27th, at Holyoke Community College. It is the largest fundraising and awareness event for the Association, which unites the entire community — family, friends, co-workers, social and religious groups and more --- in a display of combined strength and dedication in the fight against this devastating disease. There is no fee to register; however, each participant is encouraged to fundraise in order to contribute to the cause and raise awareness.

Hume is a current Alzheimer's Association MA/NH Chapter Board Member and will talk about his personal experience with this disease and how his diagnosis changed his life.

249 Clubs Tomorrow: Gordon Shurtleff Visits Springfield
Not that long ago, Gordon Shurtleff of the Torrey Pines, CA Club fulfilled his first lifelong goal: to visit 200 Rotary Clubs around the U.S. and the world, when he visited the Club in Burbank, CA.  His Rotary fervor has led him to over 2,100 meetings in 42 years of perfect attendance with the organization he calls “his other home.” “I even attend meetings during the weeks my own club takes off,” he laughs.

This Friday, Gordon will chalk up number 249 when he visits our Friday June 5th luncheon meeting.  We might have been his 250th, but for a scheduling squeeze.  For now, that distinction will belong to Saco, Maine, which he will visit after Springfield.  Gordon has fond memories of Springfield, as he frequently visited his grandparents who lived here when he was a child.  He wanted to know if Forest Park was still here and if the still had ducks.  Yes, and yes, they do.  Gordon fed the ducks at Forest Park many decades ago, and would like to return there to retrace his childhood steps.

Please give him a warm Springfield welcome when you meet him this Friday, and as the membership chairman of his Club back in California, we can expect to meet an outgoing and friendly Rotary ambassador.
