We have a great month of programing taking place at the Springfield Rotary in the month of June.
Brennan Roy will be welcomed into our Club as a new member at this Friday’s club meeting. Brennan owns a counciling service, Crisis Intervention Solutions in East Longmeadow. We have an application from Samalid Hogan. Samalid is the owner of CoWork Springfield. Samlid Hogan previously was involved in economic development for the City of Springfield.
I also want to thank you for your support of the Cambodian Clinic. Rotarian tickets to the Wine Tasting on April 15th, generated $1,000 towards the purchase of water filters. Richard Keating will be representing the Cambodian Medical Clinic Board at the Friday meeting as a check is presented to the Club for the purchase of additional filters.
On June 10th under the leadership of Alicia Garcia, the students who participated in the Career Exploration at Duggan Academy will attend our meeting. The students will bring table top displays and share their thoughts on the careers after having interviewed several Rotarians. The incoming President Laurie Rosner will give a snapshot into her goals to engage you all and the clubs in our area. Mike Cooley and Bob Dambrov have volunteered to lead the effort for a possible trip to Fenway Park.
On June 17th, we will have a visit from the Alzheimer’s Association. Rotarian Brennan Collins has invited Bianca Walker to speak to the Club. Brennan Collins is currently, chairing the Berkshire Walk to End Alzheimer’s on September 24th, 2016.

Congratulations to you all for a successful 2015-2016 Foundation Drive! I have just learned your last few donations totaling over $1,300 brought the total contributions to $6,194 for the 2015-2016 Foundation Drive. The growth over the past few years has been stupendous. We have an 11.5% increase over last year.

Senator Eric P. Lesser will address the Springfield Rotary Club's luncheon meeting on Friday, June 3rd. Senator Lesser will discuss the new developments regarding the High Speed Rail.
Eric P. Lesser was elected to the Massachusetts Senate on November 4, 2014. He represents nine communities in the First Hampden & Hampshire District, proudly serving Western Massachusetts as the youngest member of the State Senate. Prior to becoming a state Senator, Lesser worked in the Obama White House, first as Special Assistant to Senior Adviser David Axelrod, and later as Director of Strategic Planning for the President’s Council of Economic Advisers. Lesser began as a young aide on President Obama’s historic 2008 presidential campaign, traveling to 47 states and six countries with then-Senator Obama and his senior team. Lesser has been described as “the face of the promised Obama political generation” by the New York Times.
Lesser has a law degree from Harvard Law School and a bachelor’s degree in government from Harvard College. Lesser first became active in politics as a student at Longmeadow High School, where he organized a coalition of students, parents and teachers to fight teacher layoffs and protect public education.
Lesser lives in Longmeadow, just blocks from where he grew up, with his wife, Alison, young daughter Rose, and family dog, Cooper.
Lesser’s legislative agenda focuses on the fight for greater economic opportunity and quality of life for Western Massachusetts, with initiatives around high-speed rail, a high-tech economy, job training, and innovation in government. Elected at the age of 29, Senator Lesser also spearheads the Senate’s agenda on millennial issues, including technology policy, student debt, and greater youth engagement in public affairs.
Elizabeth and I are looking forward to opening our home with 45 plus Rotarians, spouses and prospective members next week. Thank you all who volunteered to bring a bottle of wine or an hors oeuvre to share. Elizabeth and I have purchased a Rotary flag to fly June 8th at 5:30PM. The incoming president will receive the flag to accompany the Presidential Chain upon entering office. I look forward to next week.

Duggan Academy has opened its doors to the Springfield Rotary to allow our members to speak about your careers and hobbies in the hopes to achieve a better understanding for the students as they complete their career interest project! The students will present their project on the June 10th Rotary meeting before our guest speaker arrives.

Laurie will share one story during our Assembly by saying "Did you know this about your fellow Rotarian?" But you have to take a guess. Laurie will not share who she is talking about...until you guess who she is talking about! Laurie's goal is to have us all get to know each other even more than we already do...she's going to call it "Rotarian Spotlight!" She plans on having these Spotlights each week. A lot of new members do not know neat stuff about existing members and vice versa! Laurie will explain more on Friday.
