No one can say we Rotarians aren’t flexible! In the midst of our meeting last Friday, we received word that District Governor Kate Sims was held up (at a meeting and not literally held up LOL) and wasn’t able to join us. Our guests and fellow Rotarians enjoyed lively conversation centered around our Rotary foundation, Rowland’s quiz (which was answered correctly) and past speakers. Thank you to all who participated.
This Friday, MaryAnne Herron will be our speaker and give us a report (and pictures) regarding her recent trip to Cambodia and the water project. I’ve said it before (and mean it every time!) but this is a meeting you won’t want to miss.
I know this is an extremely busy time of year for everyone. Which is exactly why you need to come to our meeting this Friday. An hour with your fellow Rotarians will give you a chance to catch your breath and enjoy some fellowship and camaraderie!

Unfortunately, DG Kate Sims was unable to make our meeting last week. We hope to reschedule her visit for early 2019. In her place, we enjoyed some lively conversation and camaraderie. Rowland had a quiz and Alan Popp had a happy dollar for him. Says Alan, ”this was the first time I was at a table that answered the quiz correctly!” Thanks to Alan and Rowland! Also, fellow Rotarian Seth Tenenbaum invited guest Sina Holloman. Sina was so happy to join us and is planning on coming back to our club in 2019 as a speaker. Sina is Chief Executive Officer of HomeCare Hands, a 24/7 Care at Home Agency serving the Pioneer Valley.
MaryAnne Herron recently returned from Cambodia. She distributed over 200 filters to give clean water to 1,000 individuals through your generosity. Since the filters have a set lifespan, we are also planning a permanent filtration plant for the village to have online within 3 years. We will soon have solidified our partnership with the Phnom Penh Rotary Club to serve as the in country partner on our global grant. Maryanne sharing pictures from her trip this coming Friday.

Thank you to Marie Angelides, Maurice Powe, Mike Healy and Mike Rzepka for helping to serve dinner at Friends of The Homeless this past Thursday, 12/6. Those who have participated know what a rewarding experience it is. If you are interested in helping serve diner at FOH, please let President Sue know. The next time we serve dinner will be Thursday, January 3, 2019 from 4:15-530PM. They are located at 755 Worthington St in Springfield.
We have had a great start to our 2018 Foundation Drive! Thank you to Al Gay, Mike Cooley, Steve Jablonski, Sue Mastroianni, Seth Tenenbaum, Dene Kimball and Peter Pappas for their gifts. The Rotary Foundation recently released their Annual Report. Currently, 92% of the funds received are used to make a difference in the lives of others. We were reminded by the passing of President George HW Bush, the importance of our global citizenship, not just our American citizenship. As we put on the Rotary Foundations oars, we embodying this value.
Colony Care at Home is organizing a “Stockings for Seniors” event to be held this December. Our club has agreed to purchase items to fill those Christmas stockings.This is the final week for collecting stocking stuffers for Mason Wright Senior Living facility and Colony Care at Home. Colony Care at Home will assemble all the stockings. Monetary donations are also welcome. Your support for this service project is greatly appreciated! Thank you!
