Dear Fellow Rotarians,

It’s finally here!!!! After months of preparation, we are celebrating the Ninth Annual Service Above Self luncheon this Thursday, November 15th!  I’m happy that many of you will be joining me as we honor local honoree, Jeb Balise; national honoree John Calipari and our very own Jim Russell with a Rotary Lifetime Achievement Award!

Due to the Service Above Self luncheon on this Thursday and Thanksgiving next Thursday, THERE IS NO MEETINGS FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 16 OR FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 23! Our next meeting will be FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 30

This past Friday many of our members were impressed and inspired by our speaker Erika Kaftan, Education Director at Will Ross School for the Deaf. Erika is deaf and the mother of three. With the help of her interpreter Breane Hersey, they helped to educate us on some of the issues facing deaf people in our community. It was definitely an illuminating meeting.

November has been a busy month as we geared up for the Service Above Self luncheon and collected food, money and gift cards for The Gray House. While we may not be meeting this week, donations can still be dropped off at The Gray House, 22 Sheldon Street, Springfield.

Looking forward to seeing you at the SAS luncheon this Thursday!

Yours In Service,

President Sue Mastroianni

Samalid Hogan in "Power of Women" Book
Samalid Hogan is part of The Power of Women, the latest book authored and edited by Wayne E. Phaneuf, executive editor of The Republican, and historian Joseph Carvalho III, highlights influential women from the 1600s until present day. "This book was written mostly by women, for women and to women," Phaneuf said, adding that 1,000 women are featured in the book. "This book celebrates what was a long and trying struggle (for equality) that lasted way too long." Congratulations to Samalid for being a part of this historic book. Samalid donated a copy of The Power of Women, which will be raffled off on Friday, November. 30!
