Dear Fellow Rotarians,
 
We had another great meeting this past Friday, February 10, 2017 where we welcomed Carmine DiCenso, Executive Director of Dakin Humane Society in Springfield.  He did a great job and answered a lot of questions about Pit Bulls, fostering, cat over population and more.  He also provided an overview of Dakin's programs and their impact on the community.  Lamont, First Vice President led our meeting while I was away at school…what a ride in during the snowstorm!  Thank you, Lamont!
 
Lamont, Sue, Jack and I were able to take a tour of the Springfield Rescue Mission last week.  Our guide was Greg Clark the Stewardship Officer who spoke a few weeks ago at our meeting.  The mission serves the homeless in Jesus’ name since 1892.  It is a very impressive, caring and hopeful place to visit and see firsthand.  Thank you to Sue for making these arrangements for this personal tour.  For me, the highlight of the tour was seeing the old stove and oven my mom and I cooked on and plaque of my dad in the boardroom.  A very special visit, indeed.

Wishing you a very Happy Valentine’s Day week!  We love that you are part of the Springfield Rotary club and an International Rotarian! 
 
 
Speaker 
 
This Friday we will welcome Sheila Foley, Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice at Bay Path University.  Sheila’s topic will be the WELL400 program at Bay Path University.  WELL stands for Women as Empowered Learners and Leaders (WELL). The program is designed to give students the confidence they need to succeed, and help them find their purpose, passion and path to the future.  WELL is a holistic and integrated experience that touches every piece of the Bay Path journey. Students in the WELL400 program are involved with homelessness and poverty and also work with Friends of the Homeless. Their partnership with FOH led to the development of a thrift shop that offers clothing and essential goods at no cost to those receiving FOH services.
