GUEST SPEAKER THIS FRIDAY Caroline Gear, executive director of the International Language Institute (ILI) of Massachusetts in Northampton and past president of the Northampton Rotary will address the Springfield Rotary Club's luncheon meeting on Friday, April 21st. ILI’s mission is to provide language instruction for immigrants and refugees. Gear, has been at the International Language Institute of Massachusetts since 1986 as teacher, administrator and teacher trainer. She is also a Trainer of Trainers for the School for International Training’s TESOL Certificate Course. Caroline has written articles on assessment and evaluation and presented in the area of teacher training and the administration of programs both regionally and nationally. She continues to teach ESOL and Spanish to various adult populations. Caroline has lived and worked in Peru, Mexico and Spain and has a Masters in Spanish Literature from Michigan State University. She has served as secretary on the Executive Board of Directors for EnglishUSA (American Association of Intensive English Programs). She is currently serving on the Executive Board of the Northampton International Rotary Club and is the Intensive English Programs MIG Network Leader for NAFSA. SOUTHWICK ROTARY CELEBRATE 35 YEARS April 16, 2017 Southwick, MA Rich Anderson, President of the Rotary Club of Southwick, announced that the club will celebrate its 35th anniversary of Service above Self. The club was chartered in May of 1982. The club will host a spring barbecue on May 6 starting at 5:00 pm at the Southwick VFW Post 872, 151 Point Grove Road, Southwick. In addition to the BBQ there will be a cash bar, music, raffle and a special birthday cake. Tickets are $20 per person and can be purchased in advance from members of the Rotary Club or Bob Fox at Southwick Florist, College Highway, Southwick. Tickets will be available at the door. Keynote Speaker: Past District Governor Kevin Hilgers will be the keynote speaker. He and his family have an extensive Rotary background. He has been a Rotarian since 1997 and his list of Rotary jobs, past and present, is quite extensive. During his year as Governor, his District (#5370) raised over $4 million for the Foundation and had the highest District membership increase in the Zone. He is sure to have some great ideas for improving Rotary clubs and spurring membership growth and retention. His full biography is attached to this email.
